Centurion Hospice is committed to caring for patients with life threatening illnesses, supporting their families and carers, and provides palliative care to people of all religions regardless of their economic status.

PALLIATIVE NURSING SISTER

We seek to appoint a Palliative Care Sister to provide home-based palliative care to the patients in Midrand and surrounds, and also to actively market these services and build good relationships with the doctor’s practises, admission facilities, old age care facilities and hospitals in this area.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend to and provide care for patients within the guidelines of the nursing act
  • Develop and implement a nursing plan for each individual patient working with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Provide pain and symptom control in accordance with the patient’s medical advisory team
  • Provide relevant support to the family  
  • Refer patients to other specialised services if and when so required
  • Maintain all patient data in accordance with legal requirements, instructions from the medical team and within HPCA guidelines
  • Report activities as required by Centurion Hospice
  • Perform other duties, as and when so requested, in support of team goals

Requirements:

  • Diploma in General Nursing or Degree in Nursing Science
  • Registration with the Nursing Counsel of South Africa
  • Diploma or certificate in Palliative Care will be an advantage
  • A minimum of five years related experience
  • Computer literacy (Outlook, Word and Excel)
  • Unendorsed driver’s licence
  • Fluency in at least two official languages
  • An understanding of palliative care and its role in society (added advantage)
  • Resilience and the ability to deal with stress
  • Interpersonal sensitivity
  • Good judgement and decision making skills
